Well hello there!

My name is Candice.  I used to be fat.  I don't mean the kind of fat where you ask if specific items of clothing make your butt look big or chubby or curvy or whatever the sugar coated expression of the day might be.  I was the kind of fat used in those video clips that gets shown on the news or op-ed programs to illustrate the obesity epidemic in America.

At some point (which I would love to say was a lightening bolt of inspiration which I could pinpoint to specific day or moment for the sake of drama and intrigue but alas I can't) I came to the realization that my body is the only thing in this world that I have complete ownership of and that it is my ultimate responsibility and priority to treat it well.

It turns out that change is hard and it is remarkably easy to eat yourself to death.  I'm certainly not 'done' as I've made a commitment to improving my life on a permanent basis.  The fact of the matter is that I haven't even reached my optimal state of body or health yet but I've learned a bit along the way and learning more every day.  With this blog, I intend to share what I've learned about nutrition, enjoying food that actually nourishes, and exercise.
